Wounded Duck is the playful nickname bestowed to Canada's greatest golfer, Mike Weir. The nickname originated on The Shotgun Start podcast. One of the show's co-hosts, Brendan Porath, gave the nickname based on an encounter at the Augusta National practice range where he saw Weir hitting golf shots resembling a dead duck falling out of the air. where the ball resembled a duck plummeting out of the air. The Wounded Duck is a derivative of "duck hook," a golf shot with severe side spin that does not allow for the ball to travel very far, high, or straight. I guess Weir (did I mention he's Canadian?) is prone to the odd duck hook and is certainly not know as a great ball striker. But, hey, we've all got our stuff.

Anyway, I've named the blog after Weirsy for two reason: 1) I want a space where I can write and, even if some of it isn't great (Wounded), I'm going to keep on writing just like Weirsy grinds out his golf. 2) Weirsy is an icon and deserves the distinctive honour of having a blog named after him.
